7/10/2008 Basement Fire with Engine 13

July, 10, 2008 1548 hours Box Alarm 13-15 2400 Blk Druid Hill Ave.  Engine 13 arrived with a corrected address of 2413 Druid Hill Avenue with smoke showing from a 2 story MOG dwelling.  Shortly after, they upgraded to a basement fire.  Truck 10 arrived and covered the rear.  They placed ground ladders, performed a search of the dwelling and controlled utilities.  Engine 8 arrived and assumed RIT and assisted with lights and fans.  All searches were negative and the fire was contained to the basement.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 cleared after about an hour.


7/2/2008 Well Wishes **Updated**

July 2, 2008 The members of Engine 8, Truck 10, Battalion Chief 3 and Medic 15 would like to wish a speedy recovery to FF/PM Recruit Williams of Engine 8 C Shift.  He was out riding his motorcycle Wednesday night when he was struck by another motorist.  He was transported to Shock Trauma with injuries to his leg.  He is now at home doing well and looking forward to returning to work.

6/26/2008 3 alarm Warehouse in 20's first due.

June 26, 2008 2236 hours Box Alarm 20-13 800 N. Franklintown Rd.  First in companies arrived on the scene and reported a multi story warehouse with heavy fire throughout.  Companies went to work and remained on scene well into the night.  I don't have anymore info, here is the rundown courtesy of Lt. Novak FCB A-Shift.

6/15/2008 1st Due Dwelling

June 15, 2008 2332 hours Box Alarm 8-2 822 N. Carrollton Ave.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 arrived on location of a large vacant 3 story brick row house and reported fire showing from the 2nd floor.  As Truck 10 raised ground ladders and began forcing entry the crew of Engine 8 stretched their 250' into the courtyard and up the fire escape with assistance from Truck 16's crew.  The crew of Engine 13 took a second line and made their way up the interior stairwell with Truck 10's crew.  Crews found 1 room off on the second floor with minor extension into the hallway and third floor.  A quick knock was placed on the fire by the engine companies, and the truck crews were able to open up the 12' ceilings and uncover hot spots.  FIB did a quick investigation and crews were held briefly to wet down before going in service.

6/13/2008 Dwelling fire with Engine 14

June 13, 2008 0048 hours Box Alarm 14-11 310-314 S. Parrish Street.  Engine 14 arrived on location and reported that they had 3 dwellings with heavy fire in the rear.  As Engine 14 was stretching their lines and making their way in, Truck 10 arrived as the 2nd truck and took position in the rear.  The crew of Truck 10 threw mulitple ground ladders and opened up for the crews working inside.  The crew of Truck 10 also worked to remove plywood from the windows of the exposure dwellings, secure utilities and conduct searches in multiple dwellings.  Command held most companies for overhaul and Truck 10 cleared in about 3 hours.  Engine 8 was on an auto accident and did not take the box.

6/12/2008 Dwelling Fire with Engine 52

 June 12, 2008 1527 hours Box Alarm 52-12 2309 Anoka Ave.  Battalion Chief 3 (Ruff) was on the way to a box alarm in Engine 46's 1st due when he saw a column of smoke.  He located it on Anoka Ave.  The box was struck and BC3 reported a 2 story brick MOG with heavy smoke showing from the 2nd floor, before him and his aide (Lt. Saylor T-10 B-Shift) made their way in to conduct a quick search of the dwelling.  Engine 52 arrived on the scene and was directed to the 2nd floor by BC3 where they located a large volume of fire in the 2nd floor rear of the dwelling.  Engine 8 was the 2nd due engine company and pulled a 2nd line to back up Engine 52.  Companies made quick work of the 2nd floor fire as the truck companies on scene opened up looking for extension.  Companies were held by command for overhaul and cleared in about 4 hours.  One minor injury occured to a member who was transported and released.  The member's of the house wish him well.  Truck 10 was not on the box due to being out of service.

6/10/2008 Congratulations

June 10, 2008 The member's of the house would like to congratulate EVD Ryan Wenger and his wife Kristen on the birth of their son.  Luke Ryan Wenger was born 6/10/2008 at 1234 hours and weighed in at 8lb's 11oz's.  Mom, Dad and Baby are all doing well.

6/7/2008 First in dwelling fire

June 7, 2008 1120 hours Box Alarm 52-8 1807 N. Monroe St.  Truck 16 arrived on location of a 3 story brick MOG with fire showing from the second floor.  As they were raising their ladders and making their way in Engine 8 arrived, secured a water supply and stretched a line to the 2nd floor.  Companies found fire in the 2nd floor front room with extension to the hallway.  A quick knock was placed on the fire and companies were held for overhaul.  Truck was the 2nd due truck and took position in the rear and assisted companies inside with opening up.  Most companies cleared the scene in about 2 hours.

6/6/2008 Dwelling fire

June 6, 2008 1848 hours  Box Alarm 14-8  108 N. Carrollton Ave.  The box was originally dispatched to the 100 block of S. Carrollton Ave. and when Engine 14 went on location it was reported to be in the 100 blk of N. Carrollton.  Engine 8 happened to be in the right spot and arrived 1st on the corrected address reporting a 2 story brick with smoke showing from the 2nd floor.   Crews made their way in and found a small bedroom fire in the front room which was quickly extinguished.  Companies were held for about an hour to mop up.  Truck 10 was not on the box.

6/1/2008 Dwelling Fire

June 1, 2008 2220 hours Box Alarm 13-3 1338 Division St.  Truck 16 arrived on scene and reported that they had a 3 story brick with fire showing from the 3rd floor.  Engine 8 arrived and secured a water supply as Truck 10 took position in the rear of the dwelling.  The crew of Engine 8 stretched their line and made their way to the 3rd floor where they encountered a room off.  The fire was quickly knocked and companies were held to open up and conduct minor overhaul.  Most companies cleared the fireground in about 2 hours.

6/1/2008 New Addition to the house

June 1, 2008 A new addition to the house this morning was eagerly dropped off by the member's of Engine 55/Truck 23.  That new addition was Red Medic 43 (The famous stolen BCFD Medic).  It is a unit that is placed in service when BCFD is depleted in the number of available medics.  The staffing rotation will be Truck 10 on even months and Engine 8 on odd months.  It's length of stay is unknown but Engine 55/Truck 23 had it for almost 6 years.

5/29/2008 Dwelling fire with Engine 14

May 29, 2008 0242 hours Box Alarm 14-11 316 S. Gilmor St.  Engine 14 arrived on scene with a 3 story brick MOG with smoke showing from the 3rd floor.  As Engine 14 was stretching their line Truck 10 arrived and began to ladder the building and get the place opened up.  Engine 8 was assigned the RIT (3rd due) and stood by completing various task on the exterior.  Engine 14 was able to get a quick knock on the fire and after completing overhaul most companies cleared the scene in about 2 hours.

5/25/2008 Dwelling fire

May 25, 2008 0340 hours Box Alarm 52-8 Fulton Ave. @ Westwood Ave.  Engine 52 arrived on location of a 3 story brick MOG with fire showing from the 2nd floor.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 arrived shortly thereafter.  engine 8 covered Engine 52's plug and pulled a second line to back them up while the crew of Truck 10 laddered the building and conducted a search.  The crews worked quickly, getting a good knock on the fire.  All searches proved to be negative and companies cleared the scene in about 1 1/2 hours.

5/23/2008 Engine and Truck run dwelling fire w/people trapped

May 23, 2008 0556 hours Box Alarm 20-13 927 N. Franklintown Road.  Engine 36 arrived on location with fire showing from the 1st floor and bystanders reporting people trapped.  Engine 20, Engine 8, Truck 10, and Battalion 3 all arrived right behind Engine 36 and immediately went to work.  Truck 10 got ladders up and made entry through the 2nd floor windows to conduct a search with Truck 18 who had entered through the rear.  As crews were putting a good knock on the fire, the members of Truck 10, Truck 18 and Engine 14 effected a rescue over ground ladders from the 2nd story rear windows.  The victim was in cardiac arrest and was quickly passed off to Medic 8.  Engine 8 had been assigned the RIT, but was given the task of opening up the exposures and doing secondary searches.  BC3 Lago had the command and most companies cleared in about 3 1/2 hours.

5/22/2008 Engine 8 to 40's area.....again

May 18, 2008 0243 hours Box 14-10 1614 W. Fayette St.  Companies had a 3 story brick MOG with heavy fire showing 1st and 2nd floor rear.  No other info provided.  The following provided by Lt. Novak FCB "A-Shift"  Engine 8 and Truck 10 operated on scene for approx. 2 hours.

5/14/2008 Another multiple in 40's area

May 14, 2008 0632 hours Box Alarm 40-12 4907 Challedon Road.  First in companies went on scene with a 3 story garden style apartment with heavy fire and people trapped.  As the 1st in companies went to work making numerous rescues, command pulled the 2nd alarm followed by the 3rd alarm only minutes later.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 ran it on the 2nd alarm and were on scene working for over 2 hours.  The following info. provided by Lt. 5/12/2008 2nd Alarm in 40's area

May 12, 2008 0141 hours Box Alarm 40-5 4017 Chatham Road  First in companies went on location of a 2 1/2 story wood frame dwelling with heavy fire showing and fire through the roof.  Engine 8 was initially on the 1st alarm but was knocked off when Engine 52 jumped the box.  Command quickly pulled a second alarm which brought Engine 8 and Truck 10 to the scene.  The following was provided by Lt. Novak of FCB "A-Shift"  Engine 8 and Truck 10 operated on scene for 2 hours.

5/3/2008 Dwelling fire

May 3, 2008 1857 hours Box Alarm 13-17 593 Baker St.  Engine 13 and Truck 16 arrived and reported a 3 story brick MOG with heavy fire showing from the 2nd and 3rd floors.  Engine arrived to cover Engine 13's plug and pull a 2nd line while Truck 10 took position in the rear throwing multiple ground ladders, forcing entry and assisting Truck 16 with opening up inside.  The engine companies were able to get a relatively quick knock on this fire.  After opening up and wetting down most companies cleared the fire ground in about 2 hours.

5/3/2008 Apartment fire

May 3, 2008 1356 hours Box Alarm 8-6  Engine 8 and Truck 10 arrived on location of a multi-story high rise with nothing showing.  Unit's received reports of an apartment fire on the 4th floor from security.  When units stepped of the elevator they located a unit with smoke coming from it.  Command was advised and units made entry, finding a mattress fire with 1 elderly victim with severe burns to approx. 80 % of her body.  The sprinkler had activated and held the fire in check, while the engine crew quickly extinguished any remaining fire.  The victim was quickly removed by Truck 10 to a waiting medic and was transported to Bayview Burn.  Crews were held to await FIB and Police Arson w/Crime Lab for the investigation.  After about 1 1/2 hours all units were clear of the scene.

The victims condition is unknown at this time.

April 30, 2008 0304 hours Box Alarm 36-3 Monroe St. and Lauretta Ave.  FCB struck out a box alarm for a reported dwelling fire in the area of Edmondson Ave. and Monroe St. as Engine 36 left quarters and approached the scene it was obvious where the fire was, they grabbed a plug and made their way toward the fire giving a status report of a 2 story brick MOG heavy fire showing 1st and 2nd floor front and rear.  Truck 10 was not far behind took the front of the dwelling behind Engine 36.  As the crew of Engine 36 was pulling their lines Engine 8's PO covered the plug as the rest of the crew ran to the fire ground and pulled a 2nd line to back up Engine 36.  As the engine companies pushed their way in the crew of Truck 10 was busy getting ground ladders up and forcing entry in the exposures that now had smoke showing from the 2nd floor.  Truck 10's EVD was on the roof making numerous ventilation hole to try and get some heat off the engine companies working inside.  All the companies on the fire ground worked together and were able to get a knock on this stubborn fire.  Command (BC3) called for FIB and after their investigation was complete companies did overhaul.  All companies were clear of the fire ground in about 3 hours.  Two member's (1 from engine 36 and 1 from Engine 8) were sent to the burn center with burns and both are expected to recover and return to duty.

4/29/2008 Chief Clack attends dinner with A-Shift

April 29, 2008 1800 hours.  Chief Clack the new Chief of the Fire Department arrived in quarters to have dinner with the member's of A-Shift.  The Chief was treated to a top notch meal consisting of Chicken Chesapeake, Crab Soup, Steamed Shrimp and Mixed Vegetables.  This fine meal was prepared by Truck 10's resident chef, FF/PM Dlabich.  This was also a memorable meal as it was the last time we would dine with Battalion Commander Ruff, FF M. Maurer, and FF/PM Sheehy.  Those 3 member's are leaving to go to new assignments starting next shift.  Chief Ruff will be taking on the roll of Shift Commander for A-Shift, FF Maurer (Chiefs Aide) will be returning to his first acting spot at Engine Co. 35 A-Shift, and FF/PM Sheehy was promoted to EVD at Truck 27, and then Lt. (20 minutes later) at Engine Co. 57.  As the shift sat down to eat, Chief Clack answered some questions and listened to some concerns of the member's.  He also talked about some changes he would like to make, how he would like to see the department run, and about how he is getting acclimated to life here in Baltimore.  A good time was had by all and the member's of the house would like to thank Chief Clack for coming to dinner and being up front with us.  We would also like to extended a congratulations to Chief Ruff and Lt. Sheehy on their new positions as well as wish FF Maurer luck in his spot at Engine 35.  Don't become strangers !!

4/29/2008 Promotions

April 29, 2008

Yes folks it's true William "Mo-town Bill" Sheehy has actually accepted a promotion this time and starting May 5, 2008 will be a Lieutenant at Engine Co. 57 in way, way, way South Baltimore.  Lt. Sheehy should have no problem getting plenty of rest while at Engine 57 and we are sure he will be like a dog scratching at the back door trying to get out of there.  The member's of the house would like say "Congratulations and Good Luck !!"  You will be missed here at Engine 8 and Truck 10.

4/26/2008 Dwelling Fire

April 26, 2008 1902 hours Box Alarm 8-5 803 N. Payson  Engine 8 and Truck 10 arrived to find smoke showing from a 2 story brick MOG.  Truck 10 forced entry as Engine 8 grabbed a hydrant and stretched a line to the door.  As Engine 8 made their way in Truck 10 laddered the dwelling and vented the second floor.  Crews found fire in the 2nd floor rear and were able to get a quick knock on the fire.  Companies did a quick overhaul and most companies cleared the scene in about an hour. 

4/26/2008 Engine and Truck run 4 alarm fire.

April 26, 2008 0316 hours Box Alarm 13-22 North Ave. and Charles St.  Units from the first alarm were arriving on location of a 4 story brick commercial building with heavy fire showing from multiple floors.  Engine 13 requested the 2nd alarm right away and this brought Engine 8 and Truck 10 to the scene.  Both companies arrived and were put to work.  Engine 8 was directed to take a line from Engine 52 and operate in the rear alley area protecting exposures from the heavy fire in the rear of the building. Truck 10 placed their ladder pipe in service, placed ground ladders around fire building and assisted in opening roll up doors.Crews were on the fire ground and eventually made relief on scene.  Most companies cleared the fire ground after approx. 6 hours.

4/22/2008 Dwelling Fire


April 22, 2008 0433 hours Box Alarm 13-2 570 W. Preston St.  Engine 13 arrived with 2 story brick rowhouse with smoke showing from the 2nd floor front.  Engine 8 arrived, covered Engine 13's plug and took a second line in to back them up.  Companies found a bedroom fire on the 2nd floor and were able to make quick work of it.  Truck 10 was the 2nd due truck and took a position in the rear, raising ground ladders, opening up and securing utilities.  Companies were on scene for about an hour.

4/20/2008 Transfer

April 20, 2008 The members of the house would like to wish Adrian Cook well in her transfer to Engine Co. 43 in Northwest Baltimore.  She has been a member of Engine 8 for over 8 years and decided she would like to work a little closer to home.  Good Luck Adrian !!

4/18/2008 Multiple Dwellings off !





April 18, 2008 1449 hours Box Alarm 55-5 1258 Sargent St. 1st arriving companies reported heavy fire in the rear of a 2 story brick MOG with extension to exposures on both sides of the dwelling.  Companies immediately went to work opening up and getting lines in service.  Engine 8 was assigned the 5th engine and took a position in the rear assisting with placing lines in service.  Command quickly called for an additional Engine and Truck, this brought Truck 10 to the scene.  They were tasked with going to the roof and assisting other units already on scene with getting it opened up as there was a large volume of fire in the cock loft area of these dwellings.  After extensive opening up companies were able to get a good knock on the fire and most companies were released.  engine 8 and Truck 10 cleared after about 2 1/2 hours.

4/17/2008 Reported fire with people trapped.

April 17, 2008 0407 hours Box Alarm 23-25 1003 Fayette St.  Engine 14 arrived and had heavy fire and smoke in the front of a 3 story brick MOG with reported people trapped in the rear.  As Engine 14 was giving their size up Truck 10 arrived and took position in the rear of the dwelling.  They immediately raised ground ladder's to the rear and were able to remove 2 kids and 1 adult from a 2nd floor roof.  None of the trapped victims were injured.  As Engine 14 was checking the house, the only fire that was found was a small fire in the basement which was quickly extinguished.  What appeared to have happened was, apparently a fire bomb was thrown at a memorial for a young child that had been killed out front of this dwelling causing large amount of exterior fire and smoke.  A small amount of fire had extended into the basement around the window area and smoke had filled the home.  Units were able to vent the home and after waiting for FIB and Crime Lab most companies were clear after about 3 hours.

4/17/2008 Fire found will clearing a box alarm !!

 

April 17, 2008 0029 hours Box Alarm 36-6 304 N. Smallwood St.  While clearing a box alarm in Engine 53's area BC6 was returning to Steadman Station when he happened upon a building with smoke coming from it.  BC6 notified FCB and the box was struck.  The building is a warehouse used for recycling old mattresses and takes up almost an entire city block. Engine 36 arrived and grabbed a plug, while Truck took position and laddered the roof along with forcing entry for the engine crew.  As crews made their way in, they found a stack of mattresses that were burning but held in check by an sprinkler head that had activated.  All searches were negative and crews were able to dismantle the stack and get a quick knock on the fire but now had the problem of smoke removal in  a 200' X 600' warehouse.  Truck 10 and Truck 8 worked together getting fans in service in an attempt to ventilate the building.  after minor overhaul and smoke removal Truck 10 cleared the scene along with most companies in about 3 hours.  Engine 8 would normally run this box, but was standing by for a medic on Cooks Lane.

 


4/16/2008 First due Dwelling Fire

April 16, 2008 2116 hours Box Alarm 8-8 1724 N. Fulton Ave.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 went on location of a 3 story brick MOG with heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor front.  As Engine 8 stretched a line, Truck 10 raised multiple ground ladders to the 2nd and 3rd floors.  Companies made there way in, and located the bulk of the fire in the 2nd floor front room with some extension into the hallway area.  As the crew of Truck 10 was venting the building and conducting a search, Engine 8's crew was able to get a quick knock on the fire.  All searches proved negative in this occupied dwelling.  FIB was notified and upon their investigation being completed companies overhauled the dwelling and returned to service.  Units cleared in about 2 1/2 hours.

4/13/2008 Dwelling fire

April 13, 2008 2225 hours Box Alarm 14-6 1932 Wilhelm St.  Engine 14 arrived on location of a 2 story brick MOG with smoke showing from the 2nd floor.  Upon making entry it was found to have several fires set in the dwelling from the basement to the 2nd floor.  Engine 8 arrived as the 4th due engine and laid a line to the rear, pulling a line to back up Engine 14, who found a small fire in the basement and heavy fire on the 2nd floor rear.  Truck 10 arrived and took position in the front as the 1st arriving truck.  They threw multiple ground ladders, performed searches and open the roof and interior for companies operating hand lines on the interior.  After FIB completed their investigation and overhaul was done, companies went in service after 3 hours on the fire ground.

4/13/2008 Dwelling fire

April 13, 2008 0454 hours Box Alarm 13-14 2218 Druid Hill Ave.  Engine 13 arrived on location of a 3 story brick MOG with heavy fire showing from the 2nd and 3rd floor.  engine 8 arrived as the 3rd due engine and assumed RIT and assisted with forced entry into the exposures.  Truck 10 took the rear as the 2nd due truck company and assisted companies inside with opening up and securing utilities.  Companies got a quick knock on the fire and with limited overhaul most companies cleared the scene in about an hour.

4/13/2008 Apartment Fire with Engine 29

April 13, 2008 0049 hours Box Alarm 29-1 2912 Springhill Ave.  Engine 29 went on location of a 2 story brick garden style apartment building with heavy fire from the front.  Engine 8 was on the initial box alarm but was canceled en route by a company who "jumped" the box.  As Engine 8 was returning to quarters FCB, at the request of command (BC5 Wagner) added an additional Engine and Truck.  This brought Engine 8 and Truck 10 to the scene.  Engine 8 arrived and was assigned RIT duties in the front, assisting with ground ladders and knocking down some exterior fire. truck 10 was assigned to assist companies inside with opening up.  The fire was contained to one unit and Engine 8 and Truck 10 cleared the fire ground in about 1 hour.  While en route back to quarters Engine 8 was involved in a minor MVC with no injuries.

4/5/2008 Dwelling Fire with Engine 52

April 5, 2008 0051 hours Box Alarm 52-8 Pulaski St./Clifton Ave.  Engine 52 arrived on location of a 2 story brick MOG on Pulaski St. with heavy smoke and fire showing in the rear.  Engine 8 arrived 2nd due, covered the plug and pulled a 2nd line to back up Engine 52.  As Engine 52 made their way to the 1st floor rear, Engine 8 took the 2nd line to the 2nd floor.  Finding only heavy smoke conditions Engine 8 ventilated the 2nd floor and was able to see the house next door had fire in it as well.  With the assistance of Engine 36, Engine 8 backed their line out and made their way into the exposure finding fire in the rear on all 3 floors.  Truck 10 arrived as the 1st due truck and laddered the building, forced entry and performed searchs as well as ventilation.  All searches were negative and with all companies working on the fireground they were able to get a quick knock on the fire.  companies were held for extensive overhaul and cleared the fireground in about 3 hours.

3/31/2008 First Due Dwelling Fire

March 31, 2008 1905 hours Box 8-11 722 N. Gilmor St.  Engine 8 arrived on location of a 3 story brick MOG with smoke showing from the 3rd floors.  As Truck 10 was forcing open the front door Engine 8 stretched their 250' line and made their way in.  Companies found fire in the rear of the dwelling on the 2nd and 3rd floors and were able to get a knock on it after a few minutes.  Command held all companies to help overhaul.  Most companies cleared the fireground in about 3 hours.

3/30/2008 Building collapse

March 30, 2008 1339 hrs Box Alarm 13-16 500 blk Wilson St.  Engine 13 and Truck 16 arrived on location of what was a 3 story brick MOG that had collapsed into the basement.  Bystanders were reporting that there was someone reported to have been working in the basement of the building.  The SRO (Special Rescue Ops.) Team was activated.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 were on the assignment to assist with manpower.  Companies were on scene for several hours and after locating the victim it was confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries.  Companies cleared the scene in about 4 hours.

3/25/2008 First due dwelling fire

March 25, 2008 1234 hours Box Alarm 8-8 1615 McKean Ave.  Truck arrived on location of a 2 story brick MOG with nothing showing.  As Engine 8 was coming up the block after leading off at the plug it was upgraded to smoke showing 2nd floor.  A resident greeted the crew of Truck 10 at the door and said the fire was upstairs.  As the tiller man and step man from Truck 10 threw ground ladders and opened up they were greeted with heavy smoke conditions on the 2nd floor.  They made entry and began to conduct a search while Engine 8 was bringing a line up to the 2nd floor.  Crews found the middle room on the 2nd floor was off and were able to get a quick but hard earned knock on it.  It seemed there might have been some flammable liquids of some kind being stored in the room and they proved to be a little stubborn.  All searches were negative and after some overhaul and FIB's  investigation crews cleared the scene in about 3 hours.

3/24/2008 Box 414 Donations

It's that time of year again ladies and gentleman.  The generous men and women who donate their personal time to give that drink or hot dog on the fire ground are asking for our help.  All member's are encouraged to donate at least $5.00 to Box 414 as a thanks for what they provide for us.  Unit officers will be collecting donation's so lets step up and hand over some money to the people that use it to help us.

3/24/2008 2nd fire of the day w/heavy fire showing

March 24, 2008 2210 hours Box Alarm 13-16 2100 blk Division St.  Engine 13 arrived on location and reported they had a 1 story EOG vacant bar with heavy smoke and fire through the roof.  Command (BC3 F. Ruff) order exterior operations only as crews began to go to work.  Truck 10 arrived as the 1st truck, forced entry, and threw multiple ground ladders before eventually setting up for ladder pipe operations.  Engine 8 arrived as the 2nd due engine, covered Engine 13's plug and put a 2nd line in service.  After the fire was throughly suppressed by the ladder pipes, crews were able to over haul for hot spots and pack up.  Most companies cleared the fire ground in about 3 hours.
 


3/24/2008 Heavy Fire on arrival

March 24, 2008 0223 hours Box Alarm 13-17 Calhoun and Presstman St's.  As Engine 8 was stopping to grab a plug Truck 10 arrived and reported a 3 story brick MOG with heavy fire from the 1st floor, companies in the rear reported heavy smoke from the 3rd floor.  Both companies took position in the front and immediately went to work stretching lines and raising ladders.  Companies moving in found heavy fire conditions on the 1st floor and Engine 13 who took a 2nd line in found fire on the 3rd floor.  As the truck companies were opening the place up the engine companies were able to get a good knock on the fire.  Command held most companies for minor overhaul and all units cleared in about 2 hours.

3/23/2008 Dwelling fire in 55's first due

March 23, 2008 1543 hours Box Alarm 55-9 208 S. Calhoun St.  Engine 14 arrived on location of a 2 story brick EOG with heavy smoke on the 1st and 2nd floors and fire showing from side "Delta".  Engine 8 arrived 2nd and covered Engine 14's plug and stretched a 2nd line to back them up.  Crews found heavy fire on the 1st floor.  As crews were making their in with attack lines command request an additional engine and truck from FCB.  This added Truck 10 to the box.  As crews were getting a good knock on the fire Truck 10 arrived and was tasked with laddering the "Bravo" exposure and assisting with opening up to check for extension.  Command held most companies for overhaul and to await FIB.  Most companies were clear of the scene within 2 hours.  Truck 10 cleared in a little over an hour.



3/23/2008 Dwelling Fire

March 23, 2008 0138 hours Box Alarm 20-3 1700 Thomas Ave.  Engine 52 arrived on location of a 2 story brick EOG with fire showing from the 2nd floor.  Engine arrived as the 2nd due engine, covered the plug and assisted companies operating inside on the 2nd with a 2nd line.  Truck 10 arrived as the 1st truck and took position in the front of the building.  Crews made a attack on the fire while the trucks laddered the building and opened up.  This was a complete 2nd floor burnout.  Companies cleared the fire ground in about 2 hours.

3/22/2008 4 Alarm Warehouse fire



March 22, 2008 0147 hours Box Alarm T6-11  1619 - 1629 Warner St.  Companies on the initial alarm called for the 2nd alarm while en route, reporting they had a large fire and a heavy column of smoke.  First arriving companies reported a large 1 1/2 story lumber warehouse heavily involved with partial collapses occurring.  Command immediately ordered a defensive operation and additional alarms were sounded.  Engine 8 and Truck 10 were dispatched on the 2nd alarm, on arrival they were set up to perform ladder pipe ops.  Truck 10 positioned their aerial ladder and began to put their  ladder pipe in operation.  Engine 8 was tasked with multiple assignments on the fire ground.  This was an all night operation as most companies were on the fire ground for several hours.  Truck 10 was out for 10 hours before clearing the scene.


Member currently serving in Iraq

EVD Rich Garrison has been activated and his Maryland National Guard unit has been deployed to Iraq.  The members of the house would like to ask everyone to keep EVD Garrison in their thoughts and pray for his safe return.  The house will not be the same without you Rich and we all would like to THANK YOU for serving our country and wish you a safe and quick return to duty here and Engine 8 and Truck 10.
